Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis is an injury involving the largest tendon in the body and is often caused by repetitive stress or a sudden increase in activity. Achilles tendonitis is commonly seen in runners, jumping sports, long distance hikers/backpackers, or in individuals who frequently climb flights of stairs. Improper footwear as well as weak foot, ankle and hip musculature can have a significant impact on these injuries.

Signs and Symptoms:

 ·       Pain on the back of the heel or along the length of the Achilles tendon

·       Pain when stepping up stairs or walking on the toes

·       Tight calf and leg muscles

·       Weak intrinsic foot strength

·       Pain after exercise or first thing in the morning
