Frozen Shoulder

Formally known as adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder is associated with pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint and severely limited range of motion. This stiffness is caused by a thickening/tightening of the shoulder joint capsule. ‘Freezing’ of the shoulder joint can occur after surgery when the patient must where a cast that immobilizes the area for long periods of time. Frozen shoulder can also occur after trauma and occasionally without a known cause.

Signs and Symptoms:

 •       Decreased shoulder range of motion over time

•       Pain while moving shoulder

•       Stiff tight feeling deep in the shoulder joint
