Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the tissue that runs from the heel along the arch of the foot. This inflammation causes pain at the heel and is often most intense the first step out of bed in the morning, often improving as the day goes on. This condition is frequently seen in runners and those who spend most of their day on their feet, such as teachers and nurses. Plantar fasciitis is often contributed to by factors such as weakness in the muscles that support the arch, improper footwear and gait mechanics.

Signs and Symptoms:

·       Pain in the heel and arch of the foot

·       Pain when getting out of bed or getting up from sitting

·       Tenderness at the heel

·       Better with prolonged rest from activities such as running and jumping

·       Worsening pain the morning after activity

·       Pain when barefoot
