Sever’s disease causes pain at the heel in children, often during times of rapid growth. Sever’s is seen most commonly in active children between the ages of 8 and 14. Rapid growth and tight calf muscles create stress and tension where the Achilles tendon attaches to the heel. This causes pain with walking, running, jumping and tenderness to the touch and limits many children’s ability to engage in active play and sports.
Signs and Symptoms:
· Pain at one or both heels
· Pain when walking, running, jumping
· Swelling and tenderness at the heel
