Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)

Tennis elbow, formally known as lateral epicondylitis, is an overuse injury causing pain at the outside of the elbow joint. This injury commonly occurs in individuals who play racquet sports and is exacerbated by a variety of technique issues including poor follow through in back hand hitting and flicking the racquet in the forehand. This injury is also commonly seen in desk workers from the repetitive nature or typing and using a mouse. Tennis elbow is the most common reason people go to their primary care doctor complaining of elbow pain.

 

Signs and Symptoms:

 ·       Pain on the outside/lateral elbow

·       Pain with elbow and wrist extension

·       Pain when opening jars, doors, or picking up objects

·       Pain in the elbow when typing or using a mouse

·       Pain most noticeable at the end of the day
