Pregnancy and Postpartum Related Back Pain

Low back pain is one of the most common complaints among pregnant women. The constant biomechanical and postural changes brought on by the growing belly, and limited positions available for sleeping, often result in discomfort. The position of your belly and baby can also put pressure on the nerves, blood vessels and musculature around your pelvis resulting in pain that extends into the hips, thighs and knees.

After delivery, many of the postural changes of pregnancy are compounded by disruptions to the muscles of the core and the physical demands of mothering an infant. Some of these changes, if not addressed in the early post-partum period, can have ongoing effects for years after pregnancy. Many developed countries across the globe include physical rehabilitation for post-partum moms as routine care. Manual therapy and specific exercises targeted at stabilizing the core and pelvis can both improve the comfort and activity level of your pregnancy and set you up to soar through post-partum recovery.

Signs and Symptoms:

·       Pain rolling over at night
