Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Pain

The TMJ or ‘temporomandibular joint is a hinge like structure that connects your jaw to the temporal bones of the skull. Popping, clicking and a locking of the jaw can cause significant discomfort and is associated with clenching/grinding the teeth while sleeping, stress, posture and chewing mechanics. Often, pain refers into the temples, sides of the head and upper neck regions.

 

Signs and Symptoms:

 •       Painful clicking and popping at the jaw

•       Locking of the jaw (open or closed)

•       pain in the temples or sides of head

•       clenching and grinding of the teeth

•       Pain in upper neck and shoulder regions

•       Tension type headaches
